We are a boutique, residential high-end design firm with an architectural focus.  We take our work seriously and deliver impeccable results for our clients, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.  We strive for an authentic, work hard / play hard culture.  We’re searching for team members that want to do inspired and challenging work, and have fun doing it.   

 

Both positions are part time, independent contractor roles, to start.  

DESIGN ASSISTANT / INTERN

RESPONSIBILITIES​

  • Support all functions of SFD, including design presentation preparation, office management, scheduling, installation, obtaining & returning samples, vendor communication, and purchasing / expediting.

  • While we expect you to be game for a wide variety of tasks, we will coach and train you in everything it takes to pull of real-world, high-quality design work

  • Manage purchasing, order tracking, and invoicing across all design projects

  • Manage trade account and tax exemption applications with vendors

  • Assist with scheduling of meetings, vendor & client presentations

  • General management of office including supplies, organization, shipping & receiving

  • Support principal and designers during “all hands on deck” installations and photoshoots

  • Occasional social media content-creation support

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You could be a design student finishing your degree, or a new grad.  If not formally trained in interior design, must have a demonstrated passion for it. 

  • Highly organized & assertive approach to tasks

  • Strong intuition for prioritization and time management

  • Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop & InDesign).

  • Reliable car and willing to travel within the Boston Metro Area

  • Able and willing to move small furniture items during installs and transport materials for presentations

JUNIOR DESIGNER

RESPONSIBILITIES​

  • Support design projects from kickoff to installation, including (but not limited to): CAD drawings, presentation prep, sourcing, and project management.

  • Source inspiration imagery and create mood boards to support overall design concept

  • Research finish materials and obtain material samples, compose palettes for design presentations

  • Create scaled furniture plans and elevations in CAD

  • Work with vendors, showrooms, and makers to obtain accurate quotes for furniture, fixtures, and accessories

  • Create detailed proposals in Studio Designer

  • Create finish schedules for paint, lighting, tile & stone, and hardware

  • Transition between creative activities and execution tasks and manage simultaneous projects 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field from an accredited school

  • At least 1 year of Interior Design experience

  • Software Skills Required: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Excel

  • Ideal candidate would also have a working knowledge of Studio Designer, Canva, and Asana

  • Working knowledge of construction process and best practices, experience communicating with tradespeople on job sites

  • Knowledge of Boston-Area Design stores and Boston Design Center showrooms

  • Reliable car and willing to travel within the Boston Metro Area

  • Able and willing to move small furniture items during installs and transport materials for presentations
